Unitary now offers UK-only and EU-only LLM processing

With our UK- and EU-only options, customers can provide a definitive answer about where their data goes during AI processing, insight which is fast becoming a non-negotiable for AI oversight, auditability, and procurement.

Unitary now offers UK-only and EU-only Large Language Model (LLM) processing, giving organisations greater control over where their data is processed when using our AI solutions. Available through our AWS partnership, customers can choose to keep LLM processing strictly within the UK or EU region.

The benefits of regional LLM processing for insurers

Insurance companies handle huge volumes of sensitive customer data, from health records to personal financial information. As AI becomes more embedded in day-to-day insurance workflows, knowing where that data is processed becomes increasingly important to ensure it stays protected and within the right jurisdiction.

With our UK- and EU-only LLM processing options, insurers get:

  • Greater protection for sensitive data
  • Confidence that AI processing stays within approved regions
  • Clearer oversight of how customer data is handled

A Head of Claims, for example, can use Unitary’s AI agents to automate claims reviews, extract sensitive information, and summarise next steps, knowing customer data stays within their chosen region throughout processing.

It also helps teams meet compliance requirements. So when Risk, Security, or Procurement asks, “Where does our data go during AI processing?” you have a clear answer and confidence that sensitive data stays protected in the region where it belongs.

What’s driving demand for regional LLM processing?

Working with highly regulated organisations, including the London Insurance Market, we know there’s a great deal to consider when adopting AI, especially as scrutiny grows around how it’s governed, approved, and deployed. And as regulatory frameworks such as the EU AI Act continue to evolve, the bar for AI control will only get higher.

Over the past year, as we’ve seen AI move from experimentation to production and real-world data, we’ve noticed a shift in the conversations we’re having with customers.

Understanding the value and ROI of AI is still top of mind. But increasingly, new questions are being asked about what happens behind the scenes: Where is our data processed? Who can access it during that process? And what guarantees are there that it stays secure?

There's good reason to ask these questions. Research from Harbr, reported by the Financial Times, found that 61% of large UK companies lacked a full understanding of how their data is handled abroad. Nearly three-quarters also reported data being transferred outside the UK through AI systems at least weekly.

For regulated industries like insurance, healthcare, and financial services, that lack of visibility and control can have serious consequences, from significant fines to lasting reputational damage. It’s why we’re seeing regional LLM processing shift from a nice-to-have to something regulated organisations increasingly need to have to get AI approved and rolled out more widely.

“As AI becomes more advanced and deeply embedded in how industries operate, trust and control matter just as much as capability and ROI. Organisations, particularly those we work with in highly regulated industries like insurance, need to know how and where their data is being processed. UK- and EU-only processing gives them that transparency and control. We expect this to rapidly become a standard requirement as AI adoption grows and governance expectations rise.”

What this means for customers

For customers without regional LLM processing requirements: If you don’t need AI processing to stay within a specific region, nothing needs to change. You can continue using our managed AI service as you do today.

For customers with regional LLM processing requirements: If you need your AI processing to remain within the UK or EU, you can now explore one of these deployment options while continuing to benefit from our AI capabilities.

Not sure what you need? Don’t worry. We can talk through your data, compliance, and processing requirements and help you find the right option for your organisation.

Frequently asked questions

Wondering if this is right for you? Here's what customers ask us most when weighing up their options.

What is UK- and EU-only LLM processing?

Every time you ask an AI model or AI agent a question, it needs to process your request before generating a response. With UK- or EU-only LLM processing, that processing stays within the region you choose.

Why has Unitary introduced UK- and EU-only LLM processing?

We introduced these options in response to growing customer demand. What started as a handful of requests from customers with strict regional data requirements quickly became a broader trend across our customer base and the industry as a whole, particularly in the highly regulated insurance market.

Who is this designed for?

It’s designed for organisations that need AI processing to remain within the UK or EU, whether for internal governance, customer commitments or regional compliance requirements.

How does UK- and EU-only LLM processing work?

An organisation’s LLM requests are routed through an internal AWS gateway to AI models hosted within its chosen UK or EU region, keeping processing within that regional boundary.

Data can be stored in the UK or EU but still processed elsewhere. This option closes that gap by ensuring the LLM processing also stays within the chosen region.

How is this option different from Unitary's standard deployment?

Our standard deployment uses global AI infrastructure, where LLM requests can be routed between regions based on factors such as capacity and demand. That means at some points, particularly peak usage periods, processing may take place in another region, including the US.

With our UK- and EU-only options, processing is restricted to the selected regional boundary, giving customers complete control over where their data is processed.

What provider does Unitary use to deliver UK- and EU-only processing?

We deliver these options through Amazon Bedrock on AWS, giving us access to leading AI models within specific AWS regions. This allows us to provide regional processing while maintaining the same Unitary experience and gives us flexibility to evaluate new models as they become available.

Do you also offer regional LLM processing in the US?

Yes. We can also offer US-only LLM processing. It works in the same way: LLM requests are processed within the US regional boundary rather than being routed to other geographies.
